Handbags: Luxury

What is the history of handbags?

Until the 19th century, nobody used the word “handbag”. Surprisingly, it developed from small travel bags for ladies made in the 1860s. These were made of leather and featured locks and toilet compartments. Later Hermes designed handbags which were often revised saddlebags or bags that had originally been meant to contain horse feed or horse blankets!

Since around 1500 AD handbags have been an essential part of everyday life for both men and women. It wasn't until the post-war economic period of the 1950s that handbags were propelled into cult status. Luxury fashion house designers such as Chanel, Vuitton, and Hermes became an influential part of the culture. As more women became employed and established an active lifestyle outside the home, the need for practical handbags grew. Designers took note and developed all sorts of bags for specific occasions.

By the 1840s, when the industrial revolution was in full swing in England, the handbag began to evolve again. We can trace the exact origins of the modern handbag to entrepreneur Samuel Parkinson – on noticing that his wife’s current bag was far too small and flimsy for regular train travel, he commissioned a custom set of durable leather bags and trunks from luggage supplier H. J. Cave. They were happy to oblige, and this travel set included what is now regarded as the very first luxury handbag.

What are the different types of handbags?

The types of handbags that will work for you are those that will look good with existing wardrobe pieces you already own, bags that you think are stylish and beautiful, and bags that are sized to hold the essential items you know you have to have with you when you’re headed out of the house. If you have a large wallet, for example, you need a handbag that will accommodate this. Your handbag needs also matter. For example, if you want to use a handbag as a laptop bag, large-style handbags will be your first choice.

As you can see from the list above, there are many different types of handbags, some of which are known by multiple names. Within the basic styles, there are many different designs and variations that make handbags such distinct pieces of fashion. The possibilities for bags are really limitless, as style history has already proven.

1. Which is the best brand of designer handbags?

There are brands like Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Prada, and The Row that has ranked high in the favorite list of luxury and designer handbags.

 2. Which type of luxury and designer handbag is widely used?

Women mostly use crossbody bags, shoulder bags, and backpacks to carry their essentials in a safe and secure way.

What are the benefits of owning a handbag?

Handbags are the most essential accessory for women as they can accommodate everything they want. These days, everyone is peculiar about fashion and style and it is obvious that you don’t want to mess up with anything. You can look for a branded designer bag that can work for years. A quality handbag not only adds style to your look but it also completes your wardrobe collection. There are endless benefits to buying a good-quality designer bag.

A well-chosen designer handbag will last you a lifetime and even become a valuable heirloom after you’ve passed away (sorry, a bit morbid). If, on the other hand, you want to make money as well as invest it, a well-timed buy and eventual selling could help you make a lot of money.

The second great benefit to pre-owned designer handbags is that they are all manufactured using the finest materials and finished to perfection. You won't find a stitch out of place when looking at a genuine Gucci bag, for example. These quality accessors enable you to update your wardrobe with an accessory you can use with confidence time and time again.
